32° Valley of Kansas City Scottish Rite

Occupation: Newspaper magnate.

Frederick Kellogg was born in Cincinatti, Ohio on December 7, 1866 and attended the public schools of that city until age seventeen. After a course in the High School he gained employment with the Cleveland Press and remained in the newspaper business since that time. He worked for various papers in the Scripps League in different departments gaining knowledge of the business becoming an advertising expert. He became joint proprietor of the Omaha News in conjunction with M.L.V. Ashbaugh in 1899 and in the same year the two obtained proprietorship of the St Paul News and Minneapolis Daily News. The following year they absorbed the Kansas City World and in 1902 became the proprietors of the Des Moines News. He became president of a number of corporations along the way and was a stockholder in the Scripps-MaCrea Association. He founded the Pasadena Evening Post in 1919. He was president and principal stockholder of the Kellogg Newspapers, Inc., which included papers in the following California cities: Pasadena, Monrovia, Hollywood, Glendale, Santa Monica, Venice, Redondo, Hermosa, San Pedro, Alhambra, and Culver City. He sold all in 1928 and retired. He married Miss Florence Scipps in Detroit and had three children.

Brother Kellog was a member of Albert Pike Lodge #219 in Kansas City, Missouri. He became a 32° member of the Valley of Kansas City Scottish Rite. Following his retirement to California he affiliated with Southern California Lodge #278 of Los Angeles.
